With the increasing awareness of ecological issues, arts education in the environment is a rapidly developing area. Kevin's work in this context focuses on specific countryside locations, urban landscapes or sites of special scientific interest, and can be particularly beneficial for urban children. In recent years, for example, he has been involved in The National Trust's London Links - Connecting People Through Place, an arts and environment project exploring creative responses to particular sites. At Morden Hall Park - a green space in the heart of the city - he worked with pre-school children and young people with learning difficulties to produce a picture-book and create murals, using the creatures and plants in the park as inspiration.
Other recent projects include:
Creek Tales: leading a week of site-specific workshops and an end-of-project performance by “gifted and able” children exploring the low-tide environment of a Thames tributary at the Creekside Centre in Deptford, South East London.
Climate Change: contributor to a round-table conversation between arts practitioners, educationalists and environmentalists about how to engage children in the issue of climate change. Conversation hosted by the Ashden Directory, an organisation bringing together environmentalism and the performing arts. See transcript of conversation by clicking here.
