Kevin's demonstrations for conferences combine both practical and theoretical elements. During the performance of a number of contrasting stories, he intersperses the narratives with a witty and informative commentary underlining key aspects of the storyteller's art.
Issues raised include:
defining differences between story-telling and story-reading
finding the right story to tell
discovering the inner meaning of a story
sharing techniques for remembering story-sequence
exploring vocal and non-verbal devices for focusing attention
illustrating use of props and musical instruments
making connections between stories and other artistic disciplines
Kevin's input into training courses and in-service training workshops provides an opportunity for participants to explore the uses of storytelling with an experienced practitioner. Working in pairs, in groups and in a circle he introduces fun-packed games and exercises on a wide range of subjects: from playground lore and storytelling in the classroom to oral history, autobiography, and the role of stories in personal and social development.
